AAUW is a non-profit, non-partisan organization.

In keeping with our non-partisan status, we support no political party: neither Progressive, Libertarian, Republican, Democrat, Sheep, Cattle, Robin nor Oriole.

AAUW has been at the forefront of major legislative victories that have positively impacted women’s lives. Our advocacy efforts have contributed to the passage of landmark laws such as the Equal Pay Act, Title IX, and the Family Medical Leave Act. Through its public policy initiatives, AAUW works to address issues like workplace discrimination, sexual harassment, and access to health care. Our advocacy is rooted in research and data, ensuring that our campaigns are both impactful and evidence-based.

However, because AAUW’s mission is to advance gender equity, we take stands which are sometimes perceived to be or may be more congruent with one political party’s way of looking at the world than with another’s. In this respect we are merely endorsing our mission, not a particular party or candidate.

As branch spokespersons, we can speak only in terms of our approved policies. As individuals, we are free to make our own decisions and choices. We may Baa, Moo, Warble, or Whistle all we want about many topics, but as AAUW Branch spokespersons, we have to speak with one symphonic voice.
