HISTORICAL HIGHLIGHTS

In July, 1971, seventeen Green Valley women met at the home of Oneta Liter.  From this and subsequent meetings with Tucson and State officers a plan was formulated for developing a Satellite Branch.   In 1972 there were 34 members, and by 1973, it had risen to 86.

On April 19, 1974, status as an independent branch was granted. At the close of 1974 there was an active membership of 113 and this represented over one hundred colleges and universities from 20 states. There are currently 150 members in Green Valley.

1975                     AAUW Green Valley received the Branch of the Year Award.

1987                     First Oneta Liter Scholarship awarded to Mary Kosiorawsky.

1996-1997           AAUW Green Valley Branch was awarded certificate in recognition as a Five Star Branch.

2002                     56th Annual AAUW-AZ Convention 2002 Presidential Commendation Award for                              outstanding achievement in social justice, national, and international policy.

2008                     AAUW Green Valley hosted State Convention.

2011                     AAUW members made it happen! American Flags flew on La Canada on Martin                               Luther King’s birthday for the very first time!

2012-2013           Four Green Valley AAUW members hold Arizona State AAUW office and                                             appointments:

– Gail Garrison, Branch Special Projects Chair

2013-2014           EYH workshop conducted for 72 middle school girls for S.T.E.M.                                                          Prepared snacks for families attending St. Andrew’s Clinic

2014-2015           Green Valley Branch celebrates 40th Anniversary
